GATHER?

There is no right or wrong amount of gather, but hear is our guide. For instance, if you live on a busy street and privacy is important, you may want extra gather (see picture 1).

The most common amount of gather is double the width of the window (see picture 2) this will give ample gather for most cases.

Some times the panel you have bought has a bold pattern you want to see clearly, or you have chosen a strong coloured panel, or you do not need much screening, you may only require a small gather (see picture 3).

HOW TO MEASURE DROP SIZE?

Your starting point is to decide where your panel will be hung.

A curtain pole outside the window recess?
Measure from the bottom of the pole straight down past the window to the desired length or to the floor, which ever you prefer.

A rod inside the window recess? (On a tension rod, pole or a wire)
Measure from the rod or pole straight down to your windowsill, and this is your required drop size.

HOW TO MEASURE THE WIDTH?

To measure the width for a curtain pole measure from end to end of the pole and decide how much gather you require, or if you are having your voiles on the inside of the window recess, just measure from the edge to edge of the window. Again work out the required number of panels or the metres you need.

PLEATING TAPE

A lot of the panels come complete with clear pleating tape ( like small rufflette tape ) This is to allow you to hang the panels from a standard curtain pole with curtain hooks and rings. To pleat you just pull the cord in the tape to the desired width and tie off. (Do not tie off tightly until you have tried up and a happy with the width ). If you don’t want on curtain rings you can still use on a net rod as there is space for the rod behind the pleat tape. If you need to shorten you pleat tape panels it is easier to shorten from the bottom of the panels.

SLOTTED TOP

Slotted top panels will hang well on tension rods, slim poles and wire, and can be shortened from the top of the panels.

TAB TOPS

Tab tops are designed to go on curtain poles or any hangings with no curtain rings, and if you require shortening it is best to do this from the bottom of the panels.

MADE TO MEASURE

In the made to measure section, you can have these designs made to your exact size ( to the nearest inch ) We do this to the highest standards. You will have a slotted top to hang them, and sides will be stitched.

With any bespoke curtains you cannot return them once purchased, so measure carefully! Remember it is better to over estimate than under, as you can always shorten but can’t add on!

WHICH COLOUR?

On of the most commonly asked questions we receive, is should I go for white or cream?
Our advice is...

If you have white window frames and don’t have much cream in your room, you should go for white.

If you have dark wood windows cream always looks good, and you have creams in your room then cream should be your choice.

In the event that you have white window frames but have a cream colour scheme go for cream, as white may look to stark.

COLOURED PANELS

Coloured panels are great, and come in a vast range. Please remember that the colour of the voile will intencify with the more gather you add to the panel and can slightly darken the window.

WASHING & IRONING

All our panels come with washing instructions. As a general rule most can be washed in the washing machine on a cool wash , wash separately to clothes, and can be dried on the washing line or on the radiator, do not tumble dry. You don’t need to wash you new product, but you will need to iron out the creases which may occur in the packaging. Check individual packets, but usually voiles and poly/cottons can be ironed on a medium heat, where organza will need added care and should be ironed on a cool iron setting. To keep your panels in good shape you should wash regularly (at least once every 3 Months)

Embroidered voiles also need extra care, Hand washing or on a cool machine wash, we recommend that you put the embroidered panel in a pillow case while washing in the machine for added protection, and is best to iron on the wrong side of the fabric on a medium heat iron.
